How to Cheer for the Team

Posted by Jody under: Children's Health .

There are cheering rules for parents (and other adult fans, too):

  • Always cheer positively. Root for your team or player — not against your opponents.
  • Praise each player after he’s finished competing. If it wasn’t his best effort, remind him that he can try to do better next time.
  • Never get into shouting matches with coaches, other adults, officials or opposing players.
  • Do not lose your temper — no matter how bad the official’s call was. Getting angry accomplishes nothing, except usually embarrassing your child.
  • Don’t belittle the coach in front of your child.
  • Don’t blame a loss on the officials. Everyone makes a bad call or two.
  • Don’t use foul language.
  • Always be a good sport, and thus a good role model for your child. Good sports accept victory and defeat with grace.
