MRI
One of the most important advances in health care
is the development of Magnetic Resonance Imaging
(MRI). It is safe, quick and free of any harmful
side effects.
This incredible technology has truly revolutionized
health care by utilizing magnetic scanning to create
3-D images of the human body.
Radiation-free MRI has become the “gold standard” for
many imaging applications. Its precise detail makes it
much easier to pin point diagnoses.
Our MRI services are fully accredited by the American
College of Radiology, which is increasingly becoming
a requirement for payment by major insurers.
Additionally, our high field 1.5 Tesla MRI units produce
superior images, as compared with lower-strength
units. Its inherently shorter duration scan times are
appreciated by patients who may have confined
space concerns.
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is another
exciting feature of our MRI service. The non-invasive
capabilities of MRA are increasingly being used for
head and neck imaging, as well as in other areas of
the body.
THE PACS ADVANTAGE
PACS is a powerful tool to expedite diagnosis and
electronically deliver images to physician offices.
Our Picture Archive Communications System (PACS)
is an exciting new technological advantage for you
and your physician. This technology allows our
radiologists to view your MRI images digitally and
perform real-time consults with radiologists at other
locations, as well as allowing your physician access
to images in his or her office.
PREPARING FOR THE EXAM
Preparation for an MRI is minimal. For most
studies it is fine to eat regular meals and take
routine medications. However, if you are having
an abdominal scan, please refrain from eating or
drinking anything four hours prior to the exam.
Dress comfortably in clothes that have little or no
metal on them. We do suggest that jewelry and credit
cards be left at home as you will not be able to take
these into the scan room. Do not have a ring cut for
removal, this is not needed.
Exam times vary and can be from 15- 45 minutes,
depending upon the area being scanned.
EXAM CONSIDERATIONS
MRI is extremely safe and incredibly accurate.
